Kerala will complete seventy-five years of its formation in 2031. Vision 2031 offers an opportunity to take stock of this exceptional developmental journey and to collectively imagine the State’s future. The Conference brings together scholars, administrators, public intellectuals, producers, activists, and researchers, strengthening Kerala’s long tradition of participatory dialogue and democratic consultation.
From the first Government of Kerala in 1957, the State has pursued a public-action-led path of development. Early land reforms dismantled unequal agrarian relations and laid the foundation for advances in education, health, and social justice. Over the decades, the synergy of mass movements and progressive public policy has produced globally recognised human development outcomes. Kerala leads India in literacy, life expectancy, maternal and child health, and school enrolment, consistently ranks first in the Sustainable Development Goals Index, and records the lowest multidimensional poverty rate in the country (0.55 per cent).
